UDG advocates for safer environments in CUCBA

In light of the recent discovery of human remains on a property in Las Agujas, just over two kilometers away from the University Center for Biological and Agricultural Sciences (CUCBA), la Universidad de Guadalajara It expresses its deepest solidarity with the families of the victims and demands safe conditions for the university community to access its campus.

 

For some time now, this institution has recognized the risks involved in the immediate environment of several of our campuses, particularly those located in urban-rural transition zones, as is the case of CUCBATherefore, we want to make it clear that the University has been proactive in addressing this problem, promoting constant efforts, inter-institutional collaborations, and multiple actions in the field to improve the safety of our community.

 

Among the various actions we have promoted, the following stand out:

  • The investment of 220 million pesos in 2025, for security issues at the campuses that make up the Red Universitaria, with a presence in 109 of the 125 municipalities of Jalisco.

  • The implementation of the Safe Routes program , which we have developed in coordination with various municipalities, has already yielded concrete results: the city councils of Guadalajara, Tlajomulco de Zúñiga, and Tonalá have created their respective Municipal Safe Routes Councils , committed to ensuring adequate public services, improving lighting, strengthening patrols, and making journeys to university campuses safer.

  • In the case of the municipality of Zapopan , we have held working discussions with the Municipal Government and have made significant progress on the proposal to establish its own Municipal Council for Safe Routes, which will be approved at the next council meeting. The University will maintain an open and constructive dialogue regarding this request.

  • Furthermore, We have a current agreement with the State Government's Transportation Secretariat, with the objective of ensuring that public transportation routes reach the entrances of the CUCBAHowever, we have observed that this commitment is not always fully met. Therefore, we once again respectfully urge the Secretariat to require public transportation concessionaires to comply with this obligation., and thereby ensure that students can travel safely to and from their university center.

 

We know that security challenges require comprehensive and sustained responses. The University will continue to actively work to ensure safety within its campuses, listening to its community and continuing its efforts with the relevant public safety authorities, as it has done until now.
